Meet Ovy

The Foodie's Buddy

Chef Ovy graduated from Kendall College, Chicago’s most prestigious culinary program but that is a long way from where his passion for baking and cooking began—with his Mother in the Transylvanian region of Romania. He was enthralled with the delicate and delightful pastries that his Mother created in their family home, instilling within the young Ovidiu a lifelong craving for learning and perfection. Ovy has spent the years since his youth training alongside some of the most noted names in Chicago culinary arts such as Chefs Paul Kahan and Mike Sheerin, and working in Michelin-rated restaurants. Ovy believes in family, tradition, culture and quality; clients quickly become friends and loyal customers once they see the joy and integrity that Ovy brings to every interaction. He delights in bringing a modern twist to traditional, high quality and fresh ingredients.

At Ovy Signature Catering we take pride in the fact that every culinary creation is a true work of art and a refined delicacy, prepared from scratch with the utmost care and attention to detail using only the freshest and finest quality ingredients. Local, sustainable, free-range meat, poultry, and fish are the rule, whenever possible. Our cuisine is always fresh, light, and flavorful and our ever-changing menu reflects the abundant seasonal offerings of our best local farmers’ markets.

Chef Ovy’s culinary background and expertise enhance any event, from small cocktail parties to business lunch meetings, bar/bat mitzvahs to weddings, buffets to elegant sit down dinners. Time well spent in some of the finest kitchens of Chicago- Balsan of the Waldorf Astoria Chicago, and Blackbird, a famous Michelin star restaurant – has enabled Chef Ovy to learn from some of the top chefs in the country, among them, 

Chefs Paul Kahan and Mike Sheerin, who demand excellence in their kitchens and have been shaping the haute cuisine and dining out scene for many years. 

Working alongside such master chefs, and cooking at such a high caliber in award-winning kitchens, taught Chef Ovy that the basis of any good dish is starting with great ingredients and treating each ingredient separately to elevate the profile of the dish as whole.
